Here's What That Means

You received Working at an Education Company! There are many different jobs that you are qualified for in this category because you already have valuable experience that these companies need. You can confidently say how their products can positively impact student learning inside the classroom (and these companies are always looking for people who know pedagogy!).

You may start looking for a job that allows you to build curricula for teachers or create resources for internal and external training. Focus on Curriculum Writer, Professional Development, or Learning and Development positions.

Also, consider helping schools use educational products as a Customer Success Manager or training schools as an Implementation Specialist. If you have a knack for sales, start looking into sales opportunities on the company careers page. The options are endless in how you can add value to education from outside of the classroom!

Example Careers You Can Pursue Include Within This Career Bucket

Instructional Designer

Teachers looking to remain in education outside of the classroom should look into a position as an instructional designer. This position looks for any disconnects between learning and performance in education and what is missing for the tools students need. They work to integrate social media and interactive programs into education and ease the transition into this new way of learning.

Professional Development Trainer

A professional development trainer continues education for employees in an organization, which takes just the experience that teachers have to offer. This position involves assessing what a company’s needs are for their employees and how to better the practices to benefit the company.

Customer Success Manager

A customer success manager is responsible for developing relationships with customers that will result in loyalty and retention. Teachers are familiar with working with parents to ensure success, and can do the same working with customers and ensuring they are satisfied with their services. They work to improve when there is dissatisfaction and often provide technical support to be sure a customer receives what they need.

Implementation Specialist

An implementation specialist ensures that once a customer purchases a software or hardware system from the company that everything is installed, monitored, and customizes the systems using technical skills. Often a teacher has technology experience, which aligns well with an implementation specialist. This position makes certain that a customer has a positive experience once they’ve purchased the product, by talking directly with clients, collecting data, customizing features and more.

Curriculum Writer

Curriculum writers are often former teachers (or teachers working part-time for an educational company!) As a curriculum writer, you'll have a savvy eye for technical writing and love creating engaging content. As a SME (Subject Matter Expert), you'll write content that continues to make a positive impact in education even after you've left the classroom.

Why is it difficult to transition from teaching?

One of the most prominent misconceptions teachers have is that they aren't qualified for other positions without going back to school. I created this quiz to help you identify "soft pivots" or career buckets that are smoother transitions using the transferable skills that you already have. In my years outside of the classroom, I've worked with former teachers in many other industries, CEOs from companies, and HR Experts. Take it from me, this list is just a modest sample of the opportunities out there for former teachers.

One of the reasons teachers find it challenging to leave teaching is because they never made a Plan B. Teaching was supposed to be a forever career, but what happens if you need to move on? My mission is to help open your eyes to many possibilities NOW to help prepare you in advance, so you don't have to make a rushed transition from teaching (like I did).

I created the Career Transition Guide for Teachers to be your Plan B exit-strategy starting point. I don't want you to have excuses to talk yourself out of having this in your back pocket just in case, so I've even dropped its cost to the ultra-affordable price of $9. Yes, the cost of knowing your available opportunities is the same as your favorite latte and a pastry.

You don't HAVE to do this alone.

I left the classroom due to a toxic work environment and severe burnout for a career in educational consulting and instructional design. After having no resources to support my own transition, I vowed to create the community to help others facing the same difficult decision. To date, over 20,000 like-minded educators have explored opportunities and supported one another through the process.

There's so much value inside this resource!
