Working With Children Outside Of Teaching

Your Image

Here's What That Means

There are many different jobs that you are qualified for in this category because you already have the passion and skills necessary to teach children effectively. You can also consider roles that support education without keeping you in a classroom, such as a Museum Educator or an education-focused non-profit organization.

Improve classes for teachers and students, through school district jobs outside of the classroom, such as a Reading Coach. For more hands-on work with children, consider roles as a Social Worker, Children’s Recreational Program Manager, Daycare Center Manager, or positions within adoption agencies or non-profit organizations. I've listed a few more opportunities below in more detail.

The options are endless in how you can add value to education from outside of the traditional classroom!

Example Careers You Can Pursue Include Within This Career Bucket

On-set education

Young actors often need on-set educators. If you're the creative type and yearn to teach in a different environment, educating child actors is a fun alternative to the traditional classroom! On-set educators work with small groups of students or one-on-one and are sometimes asked to travel to exotic film locations with their students.

Non-profit Organizations

A program coordinator for a non-profit plans and coordinates things such as fundraising, budgeting and community outreach. They also develop and implement programs that align with the organization’s mission, as well as supporting the goals of the organization. Teachers already feel comfortable developing new ideas and programs, and can align these skills to contribute to a non-profit!

Hospital Family Education Coordinators

A hospital education coordinator creates plans for the education of patients in personal care subject matters. Students who are hospitalized for long periods of times need ongoing education and hospitals are often looking for qualified teachers to fill these positions.

Curriculum Specialist

A curriculum specialist can provide support to teachers by helping create and update materials used in the classroom. They analyze data from students to learn how to best improve the implementation of the classroom material, which aligns with what a teacher does almost daily. The job also involves finding the appropriate textbooks and curriculum to improve learning outcomes based on the results from students.

Education & Credential Advisor

An education and credential advisor works with high school and college students to guide them in making academic designs preparing them for their future. For those working with high school students, they may advise on courses to take, when to take entrance exams, filling out college applications, and more. Those working with college students may consult on course selections, choice of a major, and career possibilities. Teachers are familiar with finding that connection to students, and can use that to guide them in their decisions.

Why is it difficult to transition from teaching?

One of the most prominent misconceptions teachers have is that they aren't qualified for other positions without going back to school. I created this quiz to help you identify "soft pivots" or career buckets that are smoother transitions using the transferable skills that you already have. In my years outside of the classroom, I've worked with former teachers in many other industries, CEOs from companies, and HR Experts. Take it from me, this list is just a modest sample of the opportunities out there for former teachers.

One of the reasons teachers find it challenging to leave teaching is because they never made a Plan B. Teaching was supposed to be a forever career, but what happens if you need to move on? My mission is to help open your eyes to many possibilities NOW to help prepare you in advance, so you don't have to make a rushed transition from teaching (like I did).

I created the Career Transition Guide for Teachers to be your Plan B exit-strategy starting point. I don't want you to have excuses to talk yourself out of having this in your back pocket just in case, so I've even dropped its cost to the ultra-affordable price of $9. Yes, the cost of knowing your available opportunities is the same as your favorite latte and a pastry.

You don't HAVE to do this alone.

I left the classroom due to a toxic work environment and severe burnout for a career in educational consulting and instructional design. After having no resources to support my own transition, I vowed to create the community to help others facing the same difficult decision. To date, over 20,000 like-minded educators have explored opportunities and supported one another through the process.

There's so much value inside this resource!

What did other teachers have to say about the Career Transition for Teachers Guide?

Jessica - 3rd Grade Teacher

This guide gave me so much confidence in myself and opened my eyes to new possibilities! I felt that I could clearly organize my resume and continue the career search and learn to market my skills in new ways. Thank you, Daphne!

Hey There, I'm Daphne!

There's a reason you took the Quiz...

Whether it was another teacher's recommendation, searching "other jobs for teachers," or pure chance that brought you, I'm SO happy you found me.

I was in your shoes before. Back when I was contemplating my transition out of the classroom, there were virtually no resources to support me. Eventually, I landed positions I loved in educational consulting and instructional design and started my own business.

My mission is to build the community and support that I wish I had years ago and to help you be successful.

Whether you're looking to start a transition out of teaching or curious about building a profitable side-hustle, I'm going to be your go-to gal.
